Refined high-end interior fit-out for global law firm
International law firm
Tétris was tasked with working with this legal firms’ global real estate team to create what was to be their first South African footprint. The global standard of design is set very high and the expectations here were no different.
The Tétris design team worked very closely with the firm’s designers in New York, collaborating on each aspect of the design, from wall and floor finishes, furniture and the specifications thereof, to the most minute details in the shopfitting. This close collaboration required constant brainstorming and communication across the Atlantic which was led by our project manager, managing the reporting lines throughout the design and subsequent build process.
The client chose a new building in Rosebank, Johannesburg, with a jagged, monochrome, dramatic façade that sets the tone for the design of the interior. The bold reception with black marble counter rippled with a white grain and mirrored detailing greets visitors. Behind the counter, sits a wall of champagne coloured, back-painted glass, while a luxurious white linen fabric-clad wall houses bold black and white art. Knoll/Platner pieces furnish the waiting area with an iconic design that is striking in black.
Beyond the reception area are the client interface and back of house areas. Beautifully lit and lined with carefully curated art pieces, the routes between each zone are generously proportioned.
The meeting rooms are muted in colour but luxurious due to the myriad of finishes: porcelain tiles, plush carpet inlays, fabric folded stacking doors, and the generous use of textural wallpapers. The furniture is comfortable and simple in form with putty-coloured meeting room chairs flanking stone and marble tables. Very boldly, the server units are clad in a reflective finish, mirroring the pieces in each room.
Fee-earning staff each have cellular offices which house practical workstations with ample storage and a space to meet with colleagues. A level of privacy is achieved with the use of a vinyl application on the glass, which cleverly allows light to flow from the perimeter windows through to the central open plan areas where the support staff are located.
The canteen is minimalist but practical, with the custom designed joinery items allowing for the clever concealment of essential practicalities, leaving the counter space clean and fuss-free.
The office on the whole is notable in its simplicity and Tétris successfully delivered the project against the backdrop of a complicated reporting structure and complex localisation of a very global design.
